Is it illegal to fly with a pellet rifle or pellet pistol from a Washington Airport?

April 23rd, 2009

I'm from the caribbean is it illegal to fly with the above items in any Washington airport (obviously not in my carry on) back to my destination in the caribbean?

As long as it's in a locked hard case and checked in with your other luggage your fine.

The TSA is going to consider your pellet gun a firearm. It is legal for US citizens to fly in the US with an unloaded firearm as long as it is declared, in a locked case or bag and is checked in as baggage. No ammunition can accompany it.

For a foreign national, you need to contact the FAA to find out and I would get their instructions in writing on FAA leterhead. I'm a US citizen with a FFL and a Tx carry permit and I still get hassled every time I fly with a gun.

As to "the caribbean" as your destination, laws will vary by each county. Check the country's laws before you show up at customs with a gun, or you could be spending time in a Carribean jail.
