If it was a firearm you'd need a license to use it.

i think it is because it is shooting a projectile but in all honesty i do still treat it as a real one when i use it but not to the extent i would if i was using a .22 rifle instead. as the first guy had stated if it was you would need a license for one which i also agree with.

Depends on what state you are in. NJ, NY, CA, and a few other states it's a firearm. Only the freedom states like PA it isn't.

not by federal laws, but some states , counties, and cities do classify them that way. might ask this in an airgun forum for a better answer.

In the Uk the law makes no distinction between an air weapon, shotgun, pistol, or rifle they are all classed as firearms.

This depends on the context in which you live. Different jurisdictions and countries have different laws on the books. In Canada, any pellet gun / airgun that shoots over 500FPS AND generates more than 4.2FPE (foot pounds energy) qualities as a firearm and requires a firearm licence. Police and law enforcement will treat airguns the same as a real firearm, in terms of how a citizen uses it (ie. pointing an an airgun at someone is prosecuted the same as pointing a "real" firearm at someone). Keep in mind that many airguns can and will cause serious injury or death - we just had a case in British Columbia where two teenagers were playing around and one shot the other one (accidentally or not, I don't know) with an air rifle, and the other kid died from his injuries. Almost all airguns will have the words "this gun is not a toy" written on it. A good place to start for anyone using airguns is to afford airguns the respect that one would give firearms, and practice the same safety processes that one would use on a gunpowder-based firearm.
