Do you shoot metallic silhouettes and/or fileld target air rifle, air pistol or rimefire?

Mrs. Tammy Knows Better asked:

This summer my kid wants to shoot at a local “sports” camp. They offer basically two categories, air and rimfire. For air rifle, they suggest this:

or this:

or some others, with or without a scope. Of course one can get a more expensive rifle, but keep in mind this is for a 14-17 year old.
If one has a .22 or .25 air rifle with at least 24 ft lbs muzzle energy, one must compete with rimfire shooters, which doesn’t seem fair.

You have to also provide the kid with two of these:

two sets of these:

no less than 2 cartons of these:

They will provide the paper targets.
My kid wants to shoot rimfire. I’d prefer he shoot air rifle. They said this would be OK to compete with rimfire:

What do you think I should do? My wife says get the Gamo and let him compete with air rifles. We are both against .22 rimfire at this moment.
Thanks.
