Pellet Guns: Have Fun - But Keep Safety In Mind!

May 7th, 2011

Anne Clarke asked:

A pellet gun propels its bullets using compressed air and other gases, possibly originally in liquid form. Pellet guns are also called pneumatic guns or BB guns. Consumers, especially hunters, are encouraged to use pellet guns in practicing their sport–most importantly when teaching children or any other inexperienced hunters how to shoot.
Modern pellet guns are almost all low-powered guns–and this is strictly because of safety concerns. However, there are high-powered kinds of pellet guns that are typically used in hunting and by the military. Pellet guns do have very high accuracy, and are also used in the Olympics for many sharp shooting competitions.

Many people ask me if using a higher filling amount of pressure in the cylinder of a pellet gun will be able to increase its performance capabilities? The simple answer is no. Pellet guns are designed to work within a given amount of pressure. Even with unregulated guns–putting more air in the gun will actually have the opposite effect and will lower the amount of power that pushes the pellet because it creates excessive pressure on the firing valve to hold it shut.

Find out more information and insight into the facts behind the use of pellet guns, if you have any concerns. It is very important to know to use them as well as the risks of having them in your home. However, when used properly, pellet guns can be fun and safe–a sport that friends and family can experience together.

Pellet guns are less dangerous weapons than actual guns or rifles; i.e. guns that use bullets instead of pellets, therefore the risk of physical injury is less than that of a regular gun or shotgun. But do not be mistaken, pellet guns can be dangerous–so as with any gun, you will want to make sure you have prepared yourself to use a pellet gun with the caution an safety methods required.

Air Rifles to Prove the Marksman in You

June 26th, 2010

Edwin L asked:

There are occasions when you too would love to have the brave feeling of holding a rifle in your hand. Those of you who watch movies, especially the western ones, might have envied the accurate marksmanship displayed by the actors and would have loved to possess the same skill yourself. Unfortunately, the real guns are not so easy to obtain and one needs to be of legal age to procure them. Apart from that, one also needs a valid license to keep these shooters with them and use them. It would be a breach of most state laws for kids to possess and use normal guns.

Fortunately, you can still hone in on your aiming skills and keep yourself on the right side of the law by opting in for air rifles instead. Unlike the normal rifles, these air rifles have a limited range and they use small pellets made of lead as their ammunition. While the standard rifle uses high velocity cartridges having gunpowder enclosed in the shell that propels them, the pellets of the air rifles are propelled by the force of compressed air. These pellets are relatively harmless and travel just a short distance in most entry air rifles. They cannot kill a man, unless one fires from an extremely close range and at only specified parts of a body… but then one can also kill a man with a punch directed at the correct spot. Nevertheless, there has been occasions when people accidentally hurt themselves and others using these air rifles. While using an air rifle or pellet rifle, one should learn the safety rules before using one.

Search the Internet and you will find many online stores that specialize in selling air guns and pellets of different types and ranges. While selecting an air rifle, ensure that it meets your needs. The grip should be comfortable and the eyesight (the small hole on the barrel that you use to line up the target) should be perfectly aligned. Do not go in for cheap imports, as you will rue them later on. It is also important that you select air rifles whose ammunition is commonly available. The ammunition used in air rifles are called pellets as opposed to `bullets’ that are used in normal rifles. The diameter of the pellet determines its caliber.

In closing air rifles are great for everyone, and individuals use them for a variety of reasons, competition, pest control, target practice to name a few.

How loud is a Walther Nighthawk air gun?

October 30th, 2009

air gun
Philipkoo2 asked:

I am planning to get one for target shooting, but I heard from friends that air guns are really loud, as loud as a real firearm. How loud, in decibils and example, is a Nighthawk? If you have your own, it would be great if you could record it.
Oh and my friend is using Gamo brand CO2 cartriges. Would that make a difference?
Is there a difference if the compensator is attached? What about if the pellets are loaded or not?
